The system has found a fault
The airbag light means the SRS system has detected something that may stop it working correctly. After a crash, that's often a damaged sensor, wiring, connector or the control module itself.
Why it stays on after parts are replaced
The SRS module may hold crash-event data that requires the correct technical attention once the damaged parts are put right. Wiring damage can also be missed.
